Is there really a way to prevent wrinkles? There are many advertisements for products saying they can do just that. Our skin becomes less elastic and thickens as we grow older; this makes the lines and wrinkles that add character to an older persons face. Many experts believe using products to reduce wrinkles is only delaying the aging process. There are many things on the market that people can use, but there are also home remedies that work quite well.

There are lotions and creams that contain alpha hydroxic acids; they work by getting rid of the dead cells on the surface of the skin. These are also known as AHAs and contain vitamin D which comes from milk, fruits and sugar cane. They help get rid of skin damaging free radicals and encourage the growth of collagen which fills in the wrinkles.

Some people experience skin irritation, make sure and test to be sure you dont have an adverse reaction to the cream or lotion. Take a small amount of cream and try it in small inconspicuous area such as behind your ear lobe. The skin is also very sensitive there so if it doesnt turn red by the next day, it is ok for you to use.

You need to exfoliate your skin twice a week. This will remove old dead dried up skin and encourage new skin cells to grow. Doing this will also help the lotion to absorb into your skin better as it is hydrated. Use a moisturizer every morning after cleansing to help keep the moisture in your skin.

The Aloe Vera plant contains malic acid which helps to reduce wrinkles. Just cut a piece off the plant leaf and apply the oil or the plant leaf to your skin. Papaya can be used also; it contains enzymes which help clear away the top layer of skin. Slice a piece off and apply it to any problem areas.

Protect your Skin – Learn All About Common Skin Ailments

January 19th, 2011
4975192777 d8afec35d4 m Protect your Skin Learn All About Common Skin Ailments

There are many different kinds of skin conditions that affect people today. Everything from minor isolated rashes to conditions that cover the entire body can make life very difficult. A few of these conditions are normal, temporary, and will go away with time and proper treatment. Others are more serious and can cause health problems, and will continue to cause outbreaks for the rest of the persons life. For most skin conditions therapeutic baths and cleansing will help to alleviate the severity of the symptoms, though prescribed treatments may still be necessary.

Of all skin ailments in the world, acne is the most common. There isnt a person alive who hasnt heard of it, and a vast majority of people over the age of twelve have suffered from it personally. Although it is most commonly associated with teenagers, who are most often affected, acne is a non-discriminating condition that can strike any person of any ethnicity at any age. There are many different forms of acne, as well as different types of pimple that vary in appearance. Acne can be difficult to get rid of because it such a varied condition and the reasons behind it are still not completely known. Basically, acne is formed when a pore becomes clogged with debris and oils that are naturally created by glands beneath the skin. The clog enflames the pore, and causes a blockage to the skin oils which creates a raised bump on the surface of the skin. Other than this, not much is known about acne. The best universal treatment for acne is a soft skin cleanser applied once or more per day, although many times prescribed medicines must be applied to treat it.

Psoriasis is a skin condition that results in very scaly skin. The skin becomes inflamed and red in color, aggravated and dry, appearing as scales, and can happen anywhere on the body. The skin cells of Psoriasis sufferers, during outbreaks, suddenly grow five times faster than the body can replace them. This causes the dead skin cells to remain on the skin instead of flaking off, and causing the uncomfortable patches. Psoriasis is linked to genetics, and can be brought on by many different factors including diet, stress, bacterial infections, drugs and sickness. A persons diet seems to have a strong influence on the frequency and severity of outbreaks, with reductions in fat and animal protein being shown to help psoriasis. There are a few different topical treatments and shampoos that are designed to aid the skin and help relieve the symptoms of psoriasis.

Dermatitis is similar to psoriasis in that it creates uncomfortable, dry patches of skin. The causes of dermatitis, however, are vastly different than those of psoriasis and are better understood. Dermatitis is in some ways close to an allergic reaction of the skin, usually to environmental and chemical factors that are in physical contact with the body. Unfortunately, the culprits that can cause dermatitis are very, very many in number and often the only way to know about them is to learn what is actively triggering your outbreaks. These substances include many different chemical agents like cosmetics, hair dyes, perfumes, and deodorants, as well as purely physical agents like zippers, jewelry, and wristwatches. Unfortunately, the only true treatment option for contact dermatitis is to avoid whatever agent is causing the reactions, and some people suffer reactions to several different substances. There are however, certain products on the market such as exfoliating bath soaps and agents that can help relieve the symptoms of an outbreak once it has occurred.

An Effective Cleansing Regimen for Your Skin

January 19th, 2011

Just about everyone aspires to have healthy and squeaky clean skin that glows with radiance. And that can be a possibility, provided you take good care of your skin. And one of the primary steps is to wash your face with a good cleanser! Its that simple!

Importance of Cleansing your skin
During the course of the day, your skin tends to accumulate all the sweat, debris, pollution particles and even bacteria. These elements tend to clog the skin pores. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to use a cleanser that is non-irritating and is safe to use or it may causes additional acne.

Some people wash their face with a regular soap in place of a cleanser. However, soaps contain fats, oils and salts that plug the hair follicles and make your skin dry and flaky. When the surface of the skin degreases, the bacterial growth flourishes thus leading to cellular damage.

Importance of using a Skin Cleanser

The skin is the first layer of defense against harmful chemicals and other infections. Your face and neck area are the most vulnerable spots as they are exposed more environmental contaminates. So, it becomes almost imperative to clean them regularly.

Skin cleansers act like emulsifiers. They scrape out all the dirt, debris, excess oils, bacteria, and cosmetic residues and exfoliate the skin cells. There is only a thin line between excess oil on the skin and fats that waterproof it. The cleanser only washes off the oily layer and nothing else.

How to use a Skin Cleanser?
Here is a step-by-step guide to using a skin cleanser effectively:

Wash your hands thoroughly so that no germs or bacteria get transferred to the face
Hair care products are the first to attract dirt, so start from your hairline and gradually lather down to the face and neck area.
Gently massage your face for a minute and wipe off all the dirt with your fingertips. If you put on make-up, then it is best to use cotton balls for effective removal of cosmetic residues.
Rinse your face with water. Remember, the water should be neither very hot nor very cold as they may cause breakage of capillaries.

Skin Cleansers based on skin types

Normal Skin
People blessed with normal skin types can experiment with a variety of liquid, soap and gel skin cleansers. However, select a mild cleanser and after the cleansing process, rinse it off with lukewarm water. Restrict the use of soap for hands only.

Dry Skin
For dry skin types, its better to stick to a cream cleanser that contains non-detergent ingredients. For extremely dry skin, hard milled cleansing bars or gentle cleansing lotions should be used. Steer clear of hot water as it may take away all the moisture from your skin.

Oily Skin
Use a gentle cleansing face wash that removes all the dirt and excess oil without scraping off moisturizing fats from the skin surface. People with oily skin should completely restrain from wax-based cleansing gels as they tend to clog oil-prone pores of the skin.

Combination Skin
Use a cleansing face wash in the mornings to clear away the oil components and use cream cleansers for the dry areas at night.

Sensitive Skin
C cleanse your face with water-soluble cleansing lotions and rinse with lukewarm water. Avoid all gels and soaps that contain alcohol and acids.
